Jun Zhang is Vice President of Research and Product Development for Koppers Performance Chemicals. In this role, Jun has been responsible for all the aspects of global PC’s R&D activities including new product development, process improvement, driving innovation, and ensuring cross-functional communication and alignment with commercial and business objectives. Additionally, he also oversees all the North America’s regulatory activities, provides advice on regulatory risks, develops and implements regulatory strategies.
Jun joined Koppers in 2014 as Director of R&D through the acquisition of Osmose Inc. Subsequently, he was elected VP of R&D in 2017 and served on the Operating Council of Koppers Inc. from January 2020 to May 2025.Prior to joining the Koppers, Jun was Director of R&D at Osmose Inc where he also held various management positions in the areas of research and development, and regulatory affairs from August 2000 through August 2014.
Jun graduated from Fudan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Chemistry, earned his Master of Science in Polymer Chemistry from Chinese Academy of Sciences, and obtained his Ph.D from Michigan State University in 1999.
Jun is currently a member of American Wood Protection Association (AWPA), and American Chemical Society (ACS), and International Research Group in Wood Protection (IRG). He served on the Executive Board of AWPA from 2022-2025.In addition, he has served as chairs at various technical committees and scientific committees of AWPA and IRG. He has presented dozens of papers/presentations at scientific communities, authored numerous papers in peer reviewed journals, and been granted approximately 40 US patents.
