Volunteers teamed up to restore a local park and improve shared green spaces. They removed debris, cleared invasive plants, and refreshed garden areas. Their work helped protect the environment and enhance the park for visitors. 


Employees joined forces to build a new footbridge along a community trail. Working with conservation leaders, they helped complete a key section safely and efficiently. The project improved access and the overall outdoor experience.


Team members took part in a highway cleanup to improve roadside safety and appearance. They collected dozens of bags of litter along a two-mile stretch. Their efforts helped reduce pollution and protect nearby landscapes.

From Classroom to Career: Rock Hill Engages with Students

Creativity and family connection were plentiful in the Pittsburgh office as employees and their children came together for this year’s Take Your Kid to Work Day, hosted by the Culture & Engagement team in collaboration with LINKparents.

The event began with a spring-themed craft activity, where children had the opportunity to get creative and celebrate the season. Families then gathered for a pizza lunch, providing an opportunity for employees and their kids to connect and enjoy time together. 

The celebration concluded on a sweet note with an ice cream social, giving families an opportunity to relax, connect and celebrate the fun day together.

Rock Hill Employees Celebrate Community at the Come See Me Festival

Despite cold weather, Koppers employees showed up in a big way to volunteer at Casey’s Clubhouse, led by Employee Resource Group LINKability. A total of 11 volunteers, along with supportive family members cheering from the sidelines, came together to support athletes during two baseball games filled with energy, excitement, and inclusion. This marks the second consecutive year Koppers has supported Casey’s Clubhouse.

Throughout the event, volunteers assisted athletes with batting, running the bases, and fielding. The atmosphere reflected a strong sense of support and community, with athletes and volunteers alike enjoying every moment on the field.

Athletes remained engaged and smiling throughout the games. For volunteers, the experience served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of giving back and creating inclusive spaces where everyone can participate and thrive.

Serving Up Support in Rock Hill

Team members at Koppers Performance Chemicals in Rock Hill, South Carolina, recently engaged with local students to inspire learning.

As part of Read Across America, a nationwide program designed to celebrate reading and promote literacy, team members Eria Young (Supply Chain Manager), Sarah Ford (Office Coordinator), and Danny Curlin (Plant Manager) visited Oakridge Elementary School in Clover, SC. They read to 80 students across four kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade classes. Books were selected by the teachers, giving students the chance to enjoy stories chosen specifically for their classrooms.

The facility also hosted an 8th-grade aspiring engineer from York Prep Academy. The student toured the facility and shadowed Koppers Engineer Oliver Lierz, observing daily activities and gaining firsthand insight into plant operations. The student shared that they enjoyed seeing the team at work and learning more about the engineering role.

Programs like these allow Rock Hill employees to connect with the community, share their expertise, and provide students with meaningful experiences that foster learning and exploration of future career paths.

We are proud to share that Koppers EcoVadis Sustainability Rating has moved from Bronze to Silver, placing us in the 

EcoVadis is a platform that provides standardized sustainability assessments, awarding medals based on how a company performs compared with thousands of global peers. The sustainability rating is a comprehensive assessment in the areas of environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. 

The Silver medal recognizes both strong performance and meaningful progress, setting the stage for continued growth.

Several initiatives contributed to this improvement, including an updated greenhouse gas reduction goal, a refreshed sustainability strategy, greater transparency around internal policies and metrics, and collaboration with EcoVadis on a Supplier Sustainability Assessment Program.

Participating in the EcoVadis assessment each year gives us a valuable benchmark, helping identify opportunities for improvement, track progress over time, and strengthen transparency across our sustainability practices. Koppers was proud to sponsor the 2026 Circulate Expo & Pitch Fest, an event focused on 

 across the Hunter and Central Coast regions in New South Wales, Australia. 

The Expo is hosted by the Circular Economy Living Lab (CELL), an organization based in Lake Macquarie that works to accelerate regional circular economy transformation. 

The event highlights regional strengths in clean technology, materials innovation, resource recovery, and circular business models.

Throughout the day, attendees from the industry, government, and research explored new technologies, showcased solutions, and built connections. The Pitch Fest provided a platform for emerging innovators to present their ideas to a panel of expert judges, while the Expo floor featured a wide range of circular economy solutions. Additionally, panel discussions offered insights into investing in circular economy initiatives and the growing demand for sustainable practices.

The Expo was a valuable opportunity to strengthen Koppers presence in the circular economy and sustainability community, creating opportunities to connect with other organizations and emerging suppliers.

Team members from the Stickney, Illinois, plant engineering department recently volunteered as judges for the 

Chicago Public Schools Student Science Exhibition

During the event, 7th and 8th grade students compete in their local schools for a chance to bring their projects to the city-wide competition, held at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. Projects ranged from chemistry and physics to engineering and behavioral science, and were judged on criteria such as their scientific acumen, originality of the project, and background research on their topic. The judges provided thoughtful feedback to help students reflect on their research and ideas.

The results are in! This year’s award goes to our 

Utility & Industrial Products plant in Kennedy, Alabama

The Kennedy facility achieved a combined lagging indicator rate of 0.00, with no OSHA recordables, TEIR events, or serious incidents. The team implemented four iShare ideas focused on Zero Harm and recorded the highest leading activity rate of finalists. This performance marks a major improvement from 2024, when Kennedy was ranked 24th.

A celebration with facility employees is planned for later this year to honor Kennedy’s achievement and recognize the contributions of all finalists. Additionally, the top three finalists will receive a monetary donation to be given to a local non-profit.

Celebrating Kennedy’s Zero Harm Excellence

Pittsburgh’s Railroad Products & Services (RPS) team partnered with the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation to prepare for the annual Penguins Charity Game. 🏒✨

Penguins Charity Games have raised nearly $23 million for charity over the years. In preparation for the event, RPS team members assisted with packing the charity bags, assembling, taping, and stacking 4,200 boxes at the World Vision warehouse in Sewickley, PA.

This year’s theme, “Legends,” celebrated iconic Penguins figures. Every charity bag was filled with memorabilia, including a signed puck, a signed jersey, and an autographed photo from either a member of the 2025–26 Penguins roster or Hall-of-Famer Mario Lemieux.

Drew Parish, Executive Director of the Mario Lemieux Foundation, noted that the Koppers team “crushed it,” finishing what typically takes both organizations three weeks to complete in just four hours! 💪 Thanks to the RPS team’s dedication, this year's Penguins Charity Game will have a lasting impact on the community.

In Hubbell, Michigan, Koppers team members volunteered to help prepare the city for an upcoming festival.

The City of Hancock’s annual Snow Sculpture Invitational features local and national teams competing to transform large cubes of snow into detailed sculptures. Koppers volunteers helped create the starting snow blocks used for the competition.

The City of Hancock Downtown Development Authority shared their appreciation, saying:

“Thank you to the Koppers team for volunteering to help fill our snow sculpting invitational forms. Your positive attitude and community spirit made a big difference. Thanks to your strong work ethic, we were able to complete the project ahead of schedule, which was especially important given the extreme weather conditions.” ❄️🤝

Koppers Performance Chemicals team members from Peachtree City, GA, volunteered at the local Midwest Food Bank to help package donated food, thanks to a volunteer opportunity organized by the LINKwomen Employee Resource Group.

The Midwest Food Bank collects donations that are provided to other non-profits to support those in need. Some donations arrive in bulk and need to be repackaged before distribution. Koppers volunteers helped fill 200 bags of delicate freeze-dried candy, giving children a sweet treat and a reason to smile. 🍭✨

A Sweet Way to Give Back

LINKup Employee Resource Group committee members, along with a few additional volunteers, recently spent the day at the Pittsburgh Food Bank in Duquesne, PA.

The Pittsburgh Food Bank’s grocery-style market features a variety of fresh produce, meats, shelf-stable foods, and more. Volunteers spent the afternoon stocking shelves, cleaning, and organizing the space in preparation for customers. They also guided customers through the market as “shopping buddies,” helping them choose items and bagging them. Many of the customers enjoyed the conversation and the company while shopping.

Shana Sisson, Office Clerk in Roanoke, Virginia, recently volunteered her time to support a 

community beach cleanup in Carolina Beach, North Carolina

. While most volunteers were local, Shana drove an astonishing 

 to join the effort! The cleanup was held in preparation for Wilmington Riverfest, an event that draws visitors from across the region for live music, performances, vendors, and family-friendly activities.

“North Carolina beaches are my happy place,” Shana shared. “Giving back so that they’re around for the next generation is a small token of my appreciation.” 🏖️

The beach cleanup is just one example of Shana’s ongoing efforts to give back and support those in need. As the wife of a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant, 

Shana has supported military and veteran families for more than 25 years.

 For the past decade, she has volunteered with Operation Homefront, an organization providing various forms of relief to military and veteran families.

 programs with Operation Homefront. “I enjoy gathering, organizing, displaying, and distributing supplies to Virginia armories for military families,” she said. “Having an active-duty son and a recently retired husband, I understand the demands placed on America’s heroes. I’m always amazed by how gracious our community is in their giving.”

Service That Goes the Distance

A beekeeper recently visited Koppers facility in Peachtree City, Georgia, for a honey taste test and hive update! 

Koppers Peachtree City has two hives that were relocated from our former site in Griffin this past April. During the visit from the beekeeper, employees learned about the biggest threat to honeybees: the varroa mite. Beekeepers can use oxalic acid to eliminate mites without harming the bees.

The team enjoyed honey samples brought from other hives managed by the beekeeper. DNA-type tests were used to determine what type of pollen the bees were using to produce the samples. One contained more oaks, one was in a blueberry field, and another was primarily clover. 🫐🍀

The visit was both educational and fun, giving employees an opportunity to learn about honeybees and enjoy a unique hands-on experience together.

The worker bees live about 28 days but only produce honey for three day

If there is a lot of spring rain, there can be lower honey production. That's because the rain can wash away the nectar, which needs to be on the flowers for three days.

Honey is hydrophobic, which means there isn't enough water for bacteria to grow. That's why honey never expires.

The present of solids in the honey means it is raw honey and the amount of solids depends on the sugar content of the flowers' nectar.

Koppers facility in Somerville, Texas, sponsored the annual Koppers Basketball Tournament at Somerville High School for the fourth consecutive year, continuing its commitment to supporting the local community. 🏀🤝

Koppers team members assisted with tournament logistics, including funding for referees, providing food and beverages for the hospitality area, and supplying volunteers to help ensure the event ran smoothly.

Across multiple days of competition, four varsity teams and three junior varsity teams faced off, with the Brahmas from Bellville, Texas, earning the championship title and a team plaque. Second place went to the Cobras from Industrial, Texas, third place to the Cubs from Brenham, Texas, and fourth place went to the Yeguas from Somerville, Texas. 🏆

A Winning Weekend at Koppers Tournament

This holiday season, Koppers employees stepped up to support local families and organizations in need.

In Ashcroft, British Columbia, employees demonstrated remarkable generosity by donating 444.5 pounds of food and $660 to a local food bank. The team also contributed 200 pounds of clothing, 100 pounds of hygiene items, and another $660 to the local Equality group, which supports individuals and families in need. In addition, $760 was donated to The Jackson House, a long-term care home supporting seniors with publicly funded beds. 🏠

At the Susquehanna plant in Muncy, Pennsylvania, employees collected 125 gifts for their local Toys for Tots drive, helping ensure that children in need across the area have presents to open this holiday season. 🧸

The Somerville, Texas plant helped spread holiday cheer by donating gifts at Santaville, a cherished Somerville tradition for more than two decades. The festive event includes a parade, vendor market, and activities for kids. 🎁

Koppers Roanoke plant in Salem, Virginia, hosted its second annual “12 Needs of Christmas” fundraiser. Through November and early December, employees donated essential items. Donations were shared between the New River Valley Salvation Army and the Roanoke Presbyterian Community Center, ensuring critical support reaches community members facing hardship this winter. 

Our team at the Stickney, Illinois facility came together to support Toys for Tots, donating 72 brand-new toys to be delivered to children in need during the holidays. 🎅
