Koppers Performance Chemicals plant in Millington, Tennessee, recently made a charitable donation to Woodstock Middle School.

 Koppers is proud to be part of Millington’s Community Advisory Panel (CAP), with Woodstock Middle School being a frequent site for CAP meetings.

At last week’s CAP meeting, Koppers Millington Plant solidified their partnership with Woodstock Middle School through a $5,000 charitable donation.

 This donation will help support school activities including a new uniform closet, student-centered events, teacher incentives, signage repairs and more.

Computer Reach is a non-profit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide

 by refurbishing and distributing computers to those in need. Their mission is to empower individuals and families with access to technology, enabling them to thrive in today's digital world. 💻🌐

Koppers volunteer day event included eight employees from our IT team refurbishing computers for Computer Reach and providing them to students and families in need. 👨🏻‍💻

Recently, Koppers employees attended the Railway Tie Association (RTA) Tie Grading Seminar! 🛤️

The RTA Tie Grading Seminar is an annual three-day educational event where workers in the rail tie industry get an intensive classroom and hands-on learning experience.

 This year’s Seminar was held at the Stella-Jones plant in Montevallo, Alabama, and had 

The seminar included classes on crosstie defects, wood identification basics, species groupings, treating demonstrations, and tests on each of these subjects. 🌲📝

Two Koppers employees earned high scores on tests during the seminar:

 Tie Inspector Supervisor, scored highest on the Final Test – Grade and Species ID


 Tie Unloader Inspector, scored highest on the Practice Test – Grade and Species ID.

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8, to recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.

To commemorate the day, Pittsburgh employees 

represented Koppers at Junior Achievement’s (JA) Empower Her summit. 💡 🧠

JA is an organization that works to help young people discover what’s possible in their lives. They achieve this by connecting what students learn inside the classroom with life outside of the classroom.

The Empower Her event was hosted by Carlow University and 

invited high school girls to an interactive and impactful leadership and life development workshop.

 The students represented various schools throughout the region. At the event, the girls were presented with real-world situations where they learned how to budget, talk with local influential leaders, learn practical life skills, and learn about professional opportunities beyond high school.

Brianne and Monica were able to interact with 12 different groups of girls, sharing the Koppers story,

 career opportunities and our commitment to sustainability. They also talked about a life skill that is essential in both people’s personal and professional lives: collaboration. 🤝

The CFA Society Pittsburgh is an organization that connects Pittsburgh’s financial community. Each year, they hold an investment Research Challenge

 where different universities compete by researching a selected company and issuing a BUY, SELL or HOLD rating to hypothetical investors for the company. 

Last October, Koppers hosted these students

Quynh McGuire, VP Investor Relations, Brad Pearce, Chief Accounting Officer, and Tracie McCormick, Treasurer

, presented on Koppers business. 📈💡

Recently, Tracie and Monica Snyder, Investor Relations Associate, attended the CFA Regional Finals

 where students from Pitt, Penn State, Duquesne, Grove City, and Robert Morris University presented their findings on Koppers to judges. 

Pitt came on top at the regional finals, issuing Koppers a BUY rating

 (a recommendation to buy Koppers stock) 

and moving on to the next round of competition!

Koppers Spotlighted at College Investment Research Challenge!

Recently, the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin 

awarded Koppers Railroad Structures (KRS) Headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, with the Safety Award of Excellence!

This award was presented at the ABC of Wisconsin’s annual conference,

 SuperCon, where the group recognizes hundreds of members for their commitment to safety. 

The most impressive awards are the Safety Awards of Excellence,

 which are presented to one member in each of the three categories: Small Contractor, Mid-Size Contractor, and Large Contractor.

To qualify for the Safety Award of Excellence,

 groups must have incident rates for total OSHA recordables and lost workday cases that are at least 25% better than the industry average. Qualifiers must also have a model safety record that includes:
- Zero OSHA recordables in 2023
- Significant number of leading indicators (observations, hazards/controls reported, inspections, pre-task planning briefings, and project start-up safety reviews)
- Strong focus on safety field leadership, safety culture/behavior, and safety processes and results.

Koppers Railroad Structures Headquarters Honored with Safety Award!

The Western Virginia Water Authority recently nominated Koppers Roanoke Plant for the Industrial Waste and Pretreatment Platinum Award! 🏆

 a company must have 100% compliance with local water authority pretreatment regulations for five or more consecutive years. Although Roanoke has received other levels of the award in the past, this is the first time they have been nominated for the Platinum Award.

This award nomination is a result of Roanoke’s strong management practices and impact towards keeping the environment healthy.

 Some of the ways they exhibit this are by:
- Separating creosote treating solution from wastewater. 🚱
- Recycling the solution back into the treating system to be used for additional wood treatment. ♻️
- Holding wastewater and creosote tanks within secondary containment. 🛢️

Congratulations to the Roanoke plant for this nomination and commitment to keeping a healthier and greener community!

Koppers Railroad Structures Headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin, was a sponsor for Madison’s Light the Night event!

 Light the Night (LTN) is a national fundraising campaign hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) that asks communities to join together to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by blood cancers. ❤️

This year, Madison’s Light the Night set records with more than 800 people

 braving rain and wind to attend the event. This was the first year the event was held at the Vilas Park Zoo in downtown Madison and was a huge success! 🎉

Koppers again sponsored the VIP tent at the event which was extremely popular due to the inclement weather.

 However, the rain stopped right on cue for the main presentation and walk!

Koppers Railroad Structures Helps Light the Night

Koppers Domino Plant Manager, Melissa Hodges, recently took part in a mission trip to the border at Laredo, Texas.

 Melissa was among 12 participants that went on this mission trip to help “Love and Serve” the community.

On the mission trip, the group stayed at Laredo Stepping Stone, an interdenominational ministry facilitation and retreat center to advocate for missions and missionaries. 

They gave back to Laredo Stepping Stone by purchasing and replacing windows and water heaters along with repairing fence and running waterlines. 🛠️

The group also went to the city of El Cenizo next to the Rio Grande to give back to local families

. They helped by making salvation bracelets with kids, passing out shoeboxes full of toys and necessities, and supporting the community at church Esperanza Eterna by sharing a meal and repairing their driveway.

A silver badge recognizes employees who have submitted 

at least five iShare ideas that have been accepted

, making a contribution towards Koppers growth and innovation! Our three recipients this year demonstrated their creativity and initiative in sharing their ideas and suggestions on how to improve processes and services at Koppers.


Matt’s ideas identified ways to improve operations at the Hubbell plant, including the installation of heated eyewashes (necessary in chilly Hubbell!), improvements to a boot washer (to keep the plant cleaner) and a process for detecting compressed air leaks.


Diana’s ideas identified ways to improve laboratory operations and make them safer, like installing additional lighting in laboratory hoods, utilizing rolling carts for transporting heavy chemicals, and creating an equipment repair request log.


Jaxon’s ideas identified opportunities to improve safety at the Somerville plant, including using high visibility hydration packs to promote hydration, using a battery-operated spike remover to improve ergonomics of removing spikes, and distributing hot weather hard hats coated in an innovative coating that keeps the inside of the hat cooler.

In the fall of 2023, Houghton, a city in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and neighbor of Koppers Hubbell facility, beat the world record for 

the largest gathering of people wearing plaid!

 world-record attempt was organized by tourism bureau Visit Keweenaw and facilitated by the City of Houghton. Plaidurday was founded in 2011 as a light-hearted holiday, which encourages people to wear plaid on the first Friday of October every year.

Several employees from Koppers Hubbell facility braved the elements and helped join in on this world record attempt. 

, almost 400 more than the world record set in 2019! 👏

Koppers Australia employees in Mayfield recently took part in the Port of Newcastle Port Litter Pick!

 This annual event brings together staff from businesses across the Port area to get involved with cleaning up the community and protecting the local environment. 🚮

Koppers is a member of the Port community and volunteered three employees to help pick up litter at Stockton Lions Park. Afterwards, the group took part in a celebratory BBQ lunch put on by another local organization, Incitec Pivot.

Koppers Australia Team Works Towards a Cleaner Future at Litter Cleanup!

For the fourth consecutive year, Koppers Hubbell facility showed support for the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) Honor Flight.

 Each year, local veteran groups conduct this honor flight for veterans to travel to Washington D.C. and tour the memorials around our nation’s capital. ✈️

After returning home, the veterans are welcomed back with a large crowd to support their journey,

 something many of them may not have received when returning home from their deployment.

This year, Koppers chartered a bus of 40 people from the Hubbell area to drive to the celebration and welcome back the veterans

! Koppers employees, family members, community members, and a local high school ROTC program were part of this celebration and were proud to support their local veterans. 🎉
