Koppers Employees Take Part in RTA Tie Grading Seminar
April 1, 2024
Recently, Koppers employees attended the Railway Tie Association (RTA) Tie Grading Seminar! 🛤️
The RTA Tie Grading Seminar is an annual three-day educational event where workers in the rail tie industry get an intensive classroom and hands-on learning experience. This year’s Seminar was held at the Stella-Jones plant in Montevallo, Alabama, and had 15 Koppers employees in attendance!
The seminar included classes on crosstie defects, wood identification basics, species groupings, treating demonstrations, and tests on each of these subjects. 🌲📝
Two Koppers employees earned high scores on tests during the seminar: 1. Jordan Armstrong, Tie Inspector Supervisor, scored highest on the Final Test – Grade and Species ID 2. Crystal Spencer, Tie Unloader Inspector, scored highest on the Practice Test – Grade and Species ID.
Additionally, Operations Manager Josh Kmoch has served as an expert instructor at RTA's Tie Grading Seminar since 2021 and presented to the group again this year.
Great job to Jordan, Crystal, and the rest of the Koppers team for participating in this year’s RTA Tie Grading Seminar. We are proud to have employees dedicated to professional development and Koppers commitment to safety excellence! 👏
