Koppers Australia Supports Mental Health in the Workplace with RUOK Day

October 18, 2023
As part of Koppers commitment to supporting Mental Health in the Workplace, our Australia facilities recently held site events to recognize R U OK day – a national day dedicated to providing awareness and encouraging everyone to ask someone “Are you ok?” to support those struggling.
Each facility held a morning tea, barbecue lunch, or afternoon tea which encouraged everyone to pause work, have a bite to eat, and have a conversation with a co-worker. This day helped employees recognize that anyone, including our co-workers, can experience struggles in life. 💛
More than two out of five Australians aged 16-85 years (43.7% or 8.6 million people) have experienced a mental disorder at some stage in their life. The aim for R U OK day is to prevent possible harm and encourages us to continue to reach out and have a chat with loved ones, co-workers or someone within our community to support each other and let each other know, we are not alone. R U OK is a conversation that can be had any time of the day, every day.
We encourage everyone to continue to use these four steps to have a conversation that could change a life:
1. Ask R U OK? ❓
2. Listen 💭
3. Encourage action 📣
4. Check in 🤝
Thank you to our Australian teammates for reminding us that a simple act can help turn a bad day into a good one! 💝
