- Always have fire extinguishers ready and available.
- Make sure the torching equipment is in good working order.
- All torches must have a support stand.
- Don’t play with torches.
- Wear proper clothing.
- Watch the gas hoses. Don’t allow the flame from torches to come in contact with them.
- If there is any smoke seen after completing the membrane installation, find out what and where it is. Material can smolder for hours before igniting.
- Make sure a mopped on or nailed base sheet is installed as your first application ply.
- Use good hoisting techniques when hoisting gas tanks to the roof. Don’t put a rope or cable around the valve area of the cylinder.
- At all times follow the safety guidelines as published by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA).
| NOTE: Do not attempt to install torch applied modified bitumens in areas where zoning regulations and/or fire codes prohibit the presence of torches or propane cylinders on the roof. |
