Koppers Announces Board
Chairman
July 1, 1999, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — The
Board of Koppers announced today that it has elected Robert Cizik
as Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective July 1, 1999.
Mr. Cizik joined the Koppers Board of Directors as a Director on
January 1, 1999.
Robert Cizik is the former Chairman, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Cooper Industries, Inc., a $3.65 billion international
manufacturing concern headquartered in Houston, Texas. After joining
Cooper Industries in 1961, he served in various positions before
being named Chairman in 1983. He retired from Cooper Industries
in April of 1996.
Mr. Cizik is a director of Air Products and Chemicals,
Inc., Harris Corporation and Temple-Inland, Inc. He is also a director
and former
chairman of the National Association of Manufacturers.
An active
participant in local, civic and national organizations for many
years, Mr. Cizik currently serves as a Director of the
University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center Development Board
and a member of the Board of Trustees and National Advisory Council
of the Texas Heart Institute. He has received numerous awards as
an outstanding chief executive officer and as a leader in business
support of the arts.
Also announced today, former Koppers Board
Chairman Robert K. Wagner was elected Chairman Emeritus effective
July 1, 1999 and remains
an active director. Mr. Wagner is one of Koppers founders, having
served a long and distinguished career spanning some 40 years with
Koppers and ultimately serving as President and Chief Executive
Officer from December 29, 1988 until November 1994. Mr. Wagner
was elected Chairman of the Koppers Board on November 10, 1994.

and dedication
necessary to grow the company into the next millenium", said
Wagner. "We are delighted with this transition and to have
the talent, experience and impressive credentials that Mr. Cizik
brings to Koppers and its Board".

Pennsylvania, is a leading integrated producer of carbon compounds,
chemicals, and treated wood products
for use in a variety of markets including the chemical, railroad,
utility, wood preserving, rubber, aluminum, and steel industries.
Koppers operates 21 domestic and 14 Australian and Pacific Rim
facilities and serves European markets through its Tarconord
joint venture in Denmark. On a combined basis, 1998 sales were
approximately
$700 million. The company's stock is held by a large number of
management investors and by majority equity owner Saratoga Partners
