Promotions Announced for
Koppers Australia
Sept. 22, 1998, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania — Koppers
today announced three key management changes for its Koppers Australia
subsidiary effective October 1, 1998. Ernest S. Bryon has been
named Managing Director of Koppers Australia replacing Brooks C.
Wilson who is retiring but will remain a member of the board of
directors of Koppers, and Mark R. McCormick succeeds Bryon as General
Manager of Carbon Materials and Chemicals for Koppers Australia.

as Ernie and Mark to direct our efforts in the Pacific Rim. In
addition, we are extremely grateful to Brooks for his long dedication

Bryon. "The challenge comes from the need to integrate Koppers
Australia and Koppers into a competitive global carbon materials
and chemicals company, while at the same time establishing a presence

in Asia. To achieve our corporate strategies it will require the
right mix of courage and caution, as well as good people and strong
leadership."

Bryon has served as General Manager of Koppers Australia Coal Tar
Products for the past four years. He started his business career
in 1964 as a trainee for Broken Hill Proprietary and served in
a variety of management positions for BHP before joining Koppers
Australia.
A graduate of the University of Worwoogong, Bryon
resides with his wife, Doreen, in Newcastle . He is a member of
the Metal
Trades
Industry Association, Environmental Policy Advisory Committee
for the City Council of Newcastle, Advisory Committee for the Newcastle
Port Authority, and Advisory Committee for Technology and Further
Education for Metallurgy and Chemistry. Wilson started his career
with Koppers Australia in 1967 as Marketing Manager, and became
Managing Director in 1970. A graduate of Harvard
Business School and the University of Sydney, he has held positions
as a financial analyst and management consultant before joining
the former Koppers Company, Inc. in its Sydney office in 1965.
A member of the Order of Australia, Wilson also
serves as a director of Pacific Power, Pacific Solar, Opportunity
International and
the Advisory Board of the Australian Graduate School of Management
in the University of New South Wales. He is also Chairman of
Knox Grammar School Council, Chairman of Opportunity International
Australia,
and Deputy Chairman for the North Shore Heart Research Foundation.
Wilson resides with his wife, Ann, in Warrawee, New South Wales.
McCormick joined Koppers Australia from Continental
Carbon Australia where he spent the past six years as Managing
Director/General
Manager. A graduate of New South Wales University and the Harvard
Graduate School of Business, McCormick started his career in
1978 with the Service Stations Association of New South Wales,
serving
first as Industrial Officer and then as Operations Manager,
leaving in 1985 for Continental Carbon Australia. While at Continental
Carbon, he served as Northern Region Area Representative, Manager
Customer Service, and Assistant General Manager before becoming
Managing Director.
McCormick and his wife, Kelly, reside in Kingsford, New South
Wales.
Koppers completed the acquisition of Koppers
Australia last December from its former joint venture partner,
Broken Hill
Proprietary,
Australia's largest corporation.
