Koppers encouraged by
findings in new federal,
state of Arkansas health report
Preliminary Health Assessment expects no “adverse health effects”
from
North Little Rock plant
PITTSBURGH, August 8, 2003 — Koppers
Inc. and its employees are encouraged by findings of a new joint
report by the state of Arkansas and a federal agency that finds
no expected adverse health effects from operations of the company’s
North Little Rock wood-treating plant.
The Preliminary Health Assessment,
conducted by the Arkansas Department of Health in concert with
the federal Agency for Toxic Substances
Disease Registry, concluded that past, present and future exposure
to soil, groundwater and air contaminants are expected to cause
no adverse health effects.
Randall D. Collins, Koppers vice president
for safety, health and environmental affairs, said he has yet to
review the report, but
the conclusions reported by the two agencies are consistent with
the company’s employee health experience in Little Rock and
at its other plants.
“We have cooperated fully with these agencies
and worked with leaders in the community for several years now
to assure that our North
Little Rock plant is a good neighbor,” he said. “This
report confirms what our own employee experience has shown for
many years.”
