Whether it is a customer request for technical assistance, or Koppers own quest to stretch the limits of carbon pitch capabilities, the Harmarville Technical Center aids in finding new markets for Koppers products.

The Koppers Harmarville Technical Center is located at the University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center (UPARC) approximately 20 miles east of Pittsburgh. Our research and development facilities provide a laboratory environment that supports our global operations. At Harmarville, safety is a vital and on-going concern. The center has received several internal and external safety awards for accident and injury-free performance.

Koppers provides added value for our carbon pitch customers in the form of world-class technical assistance.

Process engineering, project engineering, technical support and project management services are provided for our operating departments, customers and partners.

Technical support is provided in understanding and analyzing product performance, and in developing new pitch products.

Our feedstock programs seek to improve existing feedstocks and identify new ones.

We are working to develop alternative pitches that can be used not only in traditional markets, such as carbon and graphite materials, but also in new markets.

We strive to develop quality and performance improvements of coal tar products distilled from crude coke oven tars.

At Harmarville, we work to develop specialty pitches to meet the needs of existing customers and open new markets for Koppers.
