KSA supplies prestressed concrete Crossties and Switch Ties along with Reinforced Concrete Products to Class I, Commuter, Transit and High Speed Rail systems. KSA is a partnership that combines unique strengths of both Koppers and Lehigh Hanson. Above all, KSA is committed to producing reliable products with a strong historical quality record as proof.
KSA's standard 8'-6" prestressed concrete crossties are designed for heavy-haul mainlines, mass transit or industrial sidings and meet all requirements for heavy or light loads. KSA also offers 6'-0" gantry ties for use in conjunction with crane rail systems and port projects. KSA crossties and switch ties meet or exceed the current specifications in AREMA Chapter 30.
Reduced track maintenance, less assembly time and superior operating reliability are three significant benefits from KSA's design of individual ties used in the KSA switch tie system. In-house engineering and template manufacturing improves quality and significantly reduces lead times for custom made switch ties.
KSA offers the railroad industry a complete grade crossing system which includes the crossing panels, 10'-0" concrete ties and an innovative system to secure the panels to the ties. The panels can be used with either concrete or wood ties. Rubber flangeways are provided to keep water and dirt from infiltrating the crossing foundation.
KSA produces several types of reinforced concrete wall panels that vary in size, shape, finish and function. Large or small, plain or coated, smooth or textured, KSA's high quality wall panels are designed and manufactured to meet or exceed customer expectations.
KSA offers a turnout and crossover pre-assembly service ranging in size from #6 turnouts to #32 double crossovers. Each unit is fully assembled and inspected by the KSA Quality Assurance department and a third party inspector. Each assembly is then partially disassembled for shipment by truck or rail. The switch area remains fully assembled and ready for installation as a complete unit.
KSA's unique crosstie rehabilitation process extends the useful service life of wood ties. The process includes spike and plate removal, filling of spike holes, adzing and re-treatment of the adzed area with Copper Napthenate. The plates and spikes are separated and are available for reuse by the customer for additional savings.
KSA is certified to AAR M-1003 and PCI. KSA uses non-reactive aggregates to minimize any occurrence of expansive failures in our concrete. The testing schedule that KSA employs is likely the most rigorous in the industry. Our history of producing ties since 1993 without having any expansive failures due to concrete chemistry is a testament to our strong quality program.
