Koppers produces one of the highest quality blast furnace cokes
on the market today at our Monessen, PA plant. We purchased
the facility from Sharon Steel in 1995 and we have been producing
consistently high quality metallurgical coke and providing
unsurpassed customer service ever since.
Coke is the residue of the carbonization of bituminous
coal; and is the burden support, fuel and reductant in blast furnaces.
It is primarily used in the iron and steel making industries.
Crude coke oven tar is a by-product of the coke
making process and is distilled by Koppers to produce carbon pitch.
