Port Clarence Works

The Tar distillation plant has an annual capacity to distill 160,000 tonnes of crude tar with associated downstream plants and blending facilities. It has a refurbished wharf with capability of loading both liquid and solid pitch alongside other oil fractions. It has an on site CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant providing both power and steam to this site as well as exporting power to the National grid. The site was established in 1854 with the first tar distillation taking place in the early 1900’s.
